WISE PROJECT HANDED IN!

My website- http://healthylifestyle-kate.blogspot.com/

Mum emailed our IT man about my USB and he emailed back saying that the USB could not be retrieved.

I have looked on my laptop and I have not found any saved work of the project. I have looked on my school computer and found a document named WISE; however it only contained information on BMI, therefore meaning that it had been completed very early on in the year (probably Term 2).

So I practically had to start the whole assignment again.

On Wednesday night I was up until 12am trying to get all the research (the project had taken me a year, so a lot of information) to complete the project and on Thursday night I stayed up until 1:30am finishing the project.

But everything happens for a reason. And I believe this happened for a reason- to remind me to save my work. I am sure in the future I will always save my work in more places than one- I will email assignment, save them at school, at home computers and even on a USB. I should not solely rely on a USB.

It is now finished, it is not my best work, I would have liked to do more and make it look better, however considering the circumstances, it is quite a good effort.

I hope that my aim in this project – to help Australian’s to overcome obesity- can be achieved my educating the public about a healthy lifestyle, so that less lives can be lost due to disease (such as diabetes) and we can live longer, happier lives.

I think that everyone deserves to feel their best every day, and by living a healthy lifestyle, everyone can feel their best! Eating healthily and doing physical activity every day certainly puts a smile on my face- I feel fresh, alive and healthy.

I wake up a 4:50am most mornings a week to start off my day with swimming training. I love it! I love swimming with a team, learning the proper technique and trying to improve my times. At times its tough, but in the end it’s all worth it. All the training is worth it, and it is very rewording. I also train in the afternoons and go to the gym where I go on the treadmill, do pushups, lunges, etc. Living a healthy lifestyle is just apart of my life. I feel that everyone should have the opportunity to feel great about themselves. And for those Australian’s who are obese, I wanted to provide this website with tips and ways to help overcome their problem so that they too can feel healthy every day.

To do next:
• I have to send this website out to people in the school so that they can look at it.
• I have to write my speech about my WISE project.

Progress Report- Tuesday 6/10/10---- USB BROCKEN

USB BROCKEN

I left my USB at home today in the computer (Tuesday 6/10/10). And mum accidently knocked the computer (the actual one with the USB port) over. My USB was in it. So now it is brocken: scrached and bent. All my information (reserach and all) was on this USB port. Due to doing my project in many computers (at home, at school, ect.), I almost found it pointless to keep saving my project on all the computers I went to because it (my project) was changing and being moterfied so often. However, now I greatly regret that I did not save the project every time I did it. Everytime that I moterfied it on every computer. But now it's too late- a lot of the information would have been lost. I have not yet checked on other computers how much of my WISE I have saved. I did quite a lot of work on it in the holidays- each time on a different computer and made many changes, adding a lot of information and completed a lot of the project.

This has happened before in the past- where I have not saved my things on compueters (just on USB's). On my History Assignment this year something went wrong with my USB (It may have gone through the wash and brocken). It contained my History Assignment. And it was due the next day. However this was not too bad becasue I had handed in a draft and so just re-typed the whole assignement.

I generally save documents on both sources, in the early stages of assignment and then tend to chop and change my work so much that I only tend to save it on the USB.

I think this is a sign. A Lesson that god is tellling me. Trying to make me remember it so that I don't forget it. ever. AND hopefully learn from my mistakes and save documents on many sources and devices and all the time. Well I don't think I will forget this.

The only bring thing I can get out of this, the only bringht side I can see in making this situation better, is thank god I'm not in grade 12.

So what will I do next? I will look on my school account to see if I have saved the project and my computer at home (my laptop and the home compugter. I will also ask mum to ring our IT consoltant to see if he can retrive my USB. And if all fails? I guess I will just have to start from scratch. It's due on Friday. OMG!!! :S

Progress Report- Monday 4/10/10

Monday 4 October

I finished my project today - all the research! :) Yesterday I completed all information for my blog in the section (of my blog) that is the Family Recipes (which the final section) and wrote a little conclusion to end he blog - restating the purpose of the blog and the aim of my project. All I need to do now is to add all the information onto my WISE project blog/website, so that the public can view it. I am going to get my dad to check it before I post all the information onto my blog.

Reflection

Reflection: Tuesday 15 June WISE lesson

  • I lost my USB and so all the reasrch I had done on my WISE. I will now need to start from scratch. This is very frusterating, although is just an obsticle i need to overcome in my project process. As a result, i have learnt a valuable lesson to save my work in more than one place. Eg. on the school computers, emailing work to myself, on USB, on my home computer, etc.
  • Although I am still in the reaseach phase of my project I have been thinking and considering other ways of presenting my project so that it is more creative, interesting and unique. This is not a priority at the moment but i should still keep it in mind. Some ideas that I have considered are a blog, poster, book, a box that contains all that you need to know about ensuring you live a healthy lifestyle, a scrapbooking, etc.
  • The sercret- could be a possible name for my project. Eg. "The sercret to all you need to know to enusre that you live a long, happy and healthy life is all on my blog"

The main focus- narrowing it down:
I have decided to mainly focus on Kids/teenagers and Healthy lifestyle choices as it is easier to educate kids at a young age on healthy lifestyle choices.

This include points such as:

  • Introduction: Obesity in Australia. How a healthy lifestyle contributes to health issues.
  • How do you measure up? BMI testing.
  • The Right foods-nutients
  • Helathy eating- What you should be eating
  • Exercise
  • Superfoods
  • The affects of an unhealthy lifestyle- diseases, cancer, etc.
  • Healthy reciepes for Kids (easy)- breakfast, school lunch, dinner, desserts, snacks
  • Conclusion

Journal entry: Monday 20/4/10

BLOG- Journal Entry
Day/Date: Tuesday 20 April 2010

Today I had a very productive WISE lesson!

I wrote a timeline for my project of what should be done by the end of each term so that I keep on top of my WISE project. It was good writing up a timeline as now I know that I do not have much time to comlpete the project and that I have a lot of work to do. After writing the timeline I also feel more organised and I understand the project more clearly.

Some other things that I did today:-
  • I thought I should maybe make a website (a blog page) instead of making a book as it would be easier, I could edit it more easily and a larger group of people in the community could view my project. I could still make the book for the junior school, however, making a website might be enough. I will see how I go with time (depending on weather I have time to do a website and childrens book) I will ask Ms Leeson next lesson if I should do both or just one.
  • Amy McIntyre and I also came up the idea of doing a community activity one day at school in a lunchtime. Eg. We could have a trivia or quiz day at lunctime. We could maybe do this community activity together and then also do our seperate main and major projects- mine a website and hers a video.
